I’m in the process of getting my Park Slope, Brooklyn apartment ready to be sold, which I had no idea was so labor intensive! There’s a whole “staging” thing where you have to declutter, de-personalize and bring in slick props (everyone I complain about this to is like, “duh, don’t you ever watch HGTV?” No dammit, I only watch Golden Girls and Downton Abbey!). Basically the space has to be personality-free so the buyer can project themselves into the scenario. Whatever it takes, son. Anyway, a couple nights ago I was on my kitchen floor, trapped in the eye of a tornado of pics I was removing from my fridge, when I came across Jourdan Dunn’s Winter 2011 cover of i-D magazine. I adore both the British supermodel and this cover with the fire of a thousand suns.
And I know this is the silliest thing, but I was so over the de-cluttering and so inspired by the delightful Crayola cocktail of banana yellow, violet and rose-red…that I had to drop everything and go play in my makeup. Umm so fifteen minutes later, this happened:
Not bad, right? Please ignore my three foot-long fingers (try being in 3rd grade with unnaturally long fingers the year ET came out. I still hear “Phone home, Tia!” echoing across the playground…). Ahem! And now, for the makeup credits!
Available exclusively at CVS, Nicole by OPI Ladies in the Limelight ($7.99) is a citrusy shade that pops but not in a trying-to-hard-way. I love that it’s part of the ‘Kardashian Kolors’ kollection. Those plucky little entrepreneurs! After admitting my shame at reading Kris Jenner’s autobio, ThisThatBeauty’s Felicia said the title should’ve been “Pimpin’ Aint Easy.
Nars Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella ($24) is a romantic, dusky-rose-crimson that’s feather-light on lips. Gorge, but be careful when applying…the shade won’t budge for hours.
NYX Single Eyeshadow in Frosted Lilac ($5) blends like a dream! I literally swiped it on with my middle finger (from lashline to just about crease), and it looked polished. Add skinny black liner and two coats of mascara, and you’re Dunn.
PS: Post-makeover, I picked Bobina up from daycare in full Jourdan drag (her teachers are used to my beauty shenanigans…once I showed up in lace faux lashes and they abandoned storytime to demand details). Her little blonde friend squealed, “Princess Tiana!” And Bobina looked at her, threw up her hands and said, “I told you!”
