SYB Freebie: Smooth ‘N Shine Keratin Semi-Permanent Hair Tamer

Hi girls! So we have a winner for last week’s SYB Freebie, the righteous L’Occitane Almond Shaping Delight – Keesha! I’d asked you to tell me your favorite spa treatments, and hers was so cute:

“There’s nothing better than a good seaweed wrap….uber-relaxing! I had one on my honeymoon cruise, and it made me feel so sultry and other world-ly. I’m sure I looked like Swamp Thing, but in my head, I was a green version of Zoe Saldana’s character in Avatar.”

Awesome.

And now for this week’s bit of fabulous free swag! Smooth ‘N Shine Keratin Power Semi-Permanent Hair Tamer is an insanely easy new at-home keratin treatment, blended with super-smoothing Keratin 4 and aloe proteins. If you don’t know, keratin treatments are a less invasive way to smooth curls  — a great alternative to relaxers, since they doesn’t disturb your natural curl pattern, just calm down the puff and frizz. And the treatments cost $100s at salons! You can slap this one in in the comfort of your own bathroom and breeze out looking like Thandie Newton. You’ll love.

To win, tell me your funniest/craziest/silliest DIY beauty moment. Could be plucking your own brows, doing your own wax, applying haircolor, anything. The most memorable one wins!

Since starting Grad school, I have became a DIY beauty queen! I decided to skip an appt for a mani, pedi and eyebrow wax to save money. I watched a gazillion youtube videos on eyebrow waxing and bought a Sally Hansen kit! I felt fully confident and prepared. I was not prepared for that (too) hot wax touching my face. I jumped (panicked, really) and burnt the skin right above my eye. I looked like an absolute fool running back and forth in my bathroom trying to pull the tiny piece of wax off.

Needless to say, I never waxed my eyebrows again! Threading (professional, of course) has become by best friend.

Being a single mother of two and pursuing my Doctorate in accounting. I’m looking for every way to save. Well, this save actually costed me. I two purchased the Sally Hansen waxing kit. I figured I’ll pay for my nails but get DIY kit for my eyebrows.

Anyway, the kit does not tell you not to use anything else on your face. Here goes, one Saturady morning I went to Walmart to get my nails done and pirchase the waxing kit. Killing two birds with one stone.

After returing home I washed my face with Pure Black soap. Then I followed the instructions on the box. I did the first brow with no problem I thought. So i moved on to the other one. The second brow sent me screaming for dear life. I removed more than just hair. I took the skin with it. Then I look at the other brow, It looked as though I was in a fight with Rocky. Monday, mornign I contacted my Dermatologist. She informed me using Retina-A and DIY waxing is not a match.

Ice took down the swelling and time allowed other to heal. For now on I leave the nails and the brows to the professionals.
