SYB Freebie: Black Opal ‘Be a True Lady’ Collection

Hey girls! Hats off to Stefanie Nolan, who won last week’s SYB Freebie — the Smooth ‘n’ Shine Keratin Semi-Permanent Hair Tamer. Rollin’ Rollin’ Nolan was on my dance team in high school (the Precisionettes, get into it), so she got first dibs!

This week, it’s all about Black Opal’s ‘Be a True Lady’ Spring/Summer 2012 Collection. Inspired by the movie ‘Think Like a Man’ (did you see this? I didn’t…wanna hear your thoughts), the bright, sexy products come in two collections:

Fierce Urbanista

Fierce Urbanista is an extravaganza of warm, juicy, tropical hues…lots of yellow and tangerine, so gorgeous on brown skin.

Top Shelf Diva

And then there’s Top Shelf Diva, which is about deeper, sexier plums and pinks. To win both, hit the comments section and describe your sexiest date (okay yes, I plan to live vicariously through your stories). My fave wins!

My sexiest date hasn’t happened yet, but my “dream” sexiest date is GREAT!!! I’ve had the most horrible week at work and it’s Friday. I call my husband complaining about this and that on my job and he LISTENS and comprehends my stress level. At the end of my rant he says I love you and it will get better. After work, I arrive home (still disgusted and frustrated), enter our bedroom and see a gift and a note on the bed. I open the gift first (of course), it’s a swimming suit. I open the note and it says, Put on your outfit and meet me at the local airport. Well I’m smiling so hard now, I’ve forgotten about work and my complaining bc my hubby knows that I LOVE WATER!!! So I put on my suit and covering, drive to the airport where he has a private plane ready and I’m in the air with champagne and fruit. I arrive in Savannah, GA where a car is there for transport. I am taken to a private beachfront villa. I’m so excited bc I’m ready to get in that water!!! However once I get into the villa I find another note. It says, private massage therapy appointment at 7:00 and dinner afterward. So I prepare myself for my in-room massage. A gentleman from the property comes and explains the massage session and asks the health questions. After that, he steps out so I can prepare and I lay face down on the table. He walks back in and sets the lighting and puts on some relaxing music and proceeds to perform my massage. I’m so relaxed bc he is really working out my week of tension. And I’m thinking to myself, I cannot wait to see the man I LOVE to thank him for this wonderful surprise. So now he asks me to turn over to complete my massage and I nearly jump out of my skin bc to my SURPRISE, it’s my husband!!! In complete shock I start sputtering How, what, where, etc. bc this cannot be my husband giving me a professional massage. He politely kisses me (to get me to shut up of course), and whispers in my ear, “because I wanted to be able to take your frustration, doubt, stress, fears, or tears and make them disappear in a moments’ notice.” WOW!!! He had been taking massage therapy classes for my benefit. Needless to say, we didn’t make our dinner date that night!!!

So that’s my sexiest “dream” date, but my prayer is to one day have a thoughtful, caring, and considerate husband like that so all of our dates are TRULY sexy!!!

My sexiest date was a date with my now husband for my birthday. It was at Blue Ribbon in BK. Amazing decadent meal (lobster, creme brulee, champagne). What made is sexy was that I swore he was going to propose. Spent all night waiting for it and…it didn’t happen. Instead, he proposed the next day. But it was sexy that he went to such extremes to make me happy and give me a proposal story worth sharing many years later.

He and I were driving back to his house in his little sports car at 1:00 am from dancing and unable to keep our hands off each other, so he backed his car into a hidden field and he had his way with me on the hood of his car. About 20 minutes into it, we noticed we were surrounded by a swarm of mosquitoes and were being eaten alive. We fled the scene laughing and leaving my panties in the field. LOL! The next day we examined each others battle scars. I had about 20 bites being on the bottom and I stopped counting his at 60! We had to explain to friends later that weekend at a party why we looked like we had a chicken pox outbreak. He was a short summer romance, but I’ll never forget him. :-)

My sexiest date took place years ago with an ex. He was an NBA baller I met through a mutual friend during an impromptu manicure. Our meeting was simple but he took to grand gestures to court me which failed to impress my boho nature back then. I was an open mic poet enjoying the high of having my work published with the Punany Poets. He balked at the whole poet/open mic thing & was shocked that I opted to attend a reading than have dinner with him at The Hancock building in Chicago. I wasn’t feeling his ego nor his approach so I went to the reading tho couldn’t recite due to a swollen vocal cord so I mostly hung out in the back with the other regular featured poets. Midway thru the show, I heard some ruckus on the stage & a loud applause. I paid it no mind, local celebs were always in the house but then I heard my words, my recently published piece was receiving a very awkward unpoetic delivery with the earnest approach of an obvious mic virgin. I was in complete shock & walked out to the main floor to find him bent uncomfortably low over the microphone while stumbling through my piece with crumpled paper in quivering hand. Of course he got a rousing applause because of who he was but that was by far, the sweetest bravest gesture of genuine devoted interest I’d ever received. We left, took a late ride on the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier before heading up to his place. He made me tea for my throat & we had a conversation completely scribed on index cards while cuddled up & wrapped in blankets on his terrace. We fell asleep there & went to breakfast the next morning. It seriously was the sweetest, sexiest & most intimate date I’d ever had.

@Foxy, funny you should say that – my buddy Reggie wrote “Brother To The Night” & coached Larenz on how to recite it for the movie. A bunch of us also consulted & appeared as extras – Chicago is home to so many wonderful spoken word artists I’m glad to call friends & that was a magical time for many of us indeed. ; )
