SYB Freebie: Essie Nail’s ‘Bikini So Teeny’ Summer Collection

First things first, hats off to Cecilia M, who won the first of my five Carol’s Daughter Transitioning Kit ($40) giveaways! Her comment describing her natural hair icon was so charming:

“Mine is the random lady from the beauty counter at my local mall. Her Diana Ross-esque ‘do is ever-changing, her accessories are to die for, and she always looks so poised and confident. Meanwhile, there I stand across from her in my full wig — sweaty and unoriginal — trying to convince myself that my wig has a natural-looking closure. When secretly, all I dream about is looking like this natural goddess.”

To win the second Transitioning Kit, describe your favorite way to dress up your natural/transitioning tresses!

Aaand now, check out this week’s SYB Freebie: Essie’s ‘Bikini So Teeny’ summer 2012 collection ($8 per bottle)! Oh girls, these shades are so lusciously vibrant, so eye-catching, so…edible-looking, like sorbet or gelato or tropical Starbursts. In the prettiest possible way! Fear or Desire is the bright orange, Off the Shoulder is the smoking hot pink, Cascade Cool is a shimmery pale pink, Bikini So Teeny (my fave) is an all-eyes-on-me sky blue, All Tied Up = bronze goddess realness, and Mojito Madness (my second fave) is a feisty, festive lime.

To win the entire collection, hit the comments section and tell me what nail polish you’re wearing RIGHT NOW, and why you adore it/feel “meh” about it/loathe it. Best one wins!

xo, Tia

I’m currently wearing Essie ‘Turquoise & Caicos’ and I love it! I’m really into greens and blues this season and this polish really fits the bill! I’d also LOVE to win these new colors!

Nice! Turks & Caicos is such a pretty color. I’ve been dying to get my hands on it.

I remember wearing this color for the first time 2 years ago when I got a pedi at the Aria hotel in Vegas. I received so many compliments on my toesies! That’s when I fell in love with Essie colors. Right now I have on Princesses Rule by OPI. I like it because it’s light and you can’t see when it easily chips. Not a color I’d usually wear since when I’m keeping it neutral I choose OPI’s Bubble Bath. However, Princesses Rule adds a nice shimmer with color to my nails.

I am wearing the Sally Hansen Nail Strips in Pink Polka dot. I actually really love it, totally a fun break this week from my normal solid color

I’m wearing a random green nail polish I found on my little cousin’s dresser. I feel “meh” about it. I am currently spending most of my summer indoors studying for the bar, and as I type away on my computer my current color doesn’t inspire me at all. I want/need vibrancy, the essie collection would, I believe add some color to my summer days.

I am completely, sweetly, obsessed with all things Essie! I’m currently training my 2.5 year old stepdaughter to love the colors as well and she’s always begging me for a fresh mani-pedi in a bright, eye catching candy color.

I’m currently wearing Essie’s “A Crewed Interest” and it is the creamiest, luscious pink that says “I’m a mom and I’m still interesting, damn it!” It drew my eye because it’s not little girl pink enough to make me say “Mariah Carey would fight me for this”, but it’s pink enough to make me feel like I’m seconds away from a Miami beach with the perfect pink cocktail to match!

I am currently wearing Pool Party by China Glaze. It is my absolute favorite color to wear with open toed shoes because it makes my toes POP. I love it because it is the prettiest, brightest, borderline “too loud” shade of pink I could find and it definitely gets noticed. It’s in heavy rotation for me year round!

Im wearing a fun green polish on my toes from the salon. I like to go wild on my toes and then a bit more conservative on my nails. I did see the new Essie collection today at the store and loved all the new colors. Im really thinking about Bikini So Teeny as my something blue for my wedding in 4 weeks in Jamaica. I could also use the other colors while Im there on the honeymoon. Essie colors ROCK!

I’m currently wearing Ole Caliente by Essie. I like it because it’s not a color that I naturally gravitate towards. I’m usually beige, beige and….wait for it…beige. This summer I’m making a real effort to let my cosmetics reflect a spunkier and sassier me :)

I’m currently rocking “Recycle” by China Glaze & I love it! I know it’s not your typical Spring/Summer shade at all but it’s the happenings on my brown skin. I reminds me of the concrete grey/slate color you see in a garage. Again, it’s not a bright shade but in my opinion it’s so trendy without being too vampy and muted enough to work a business suit in a corporate environment where I work. I’v actually gotten compliments on its understated beauty. It also looks nice with most of my outfits and my wedding set. I can rock it for a night out on the town, a business meeting, or with my Sunday best. Definitely my “all purpose” color and it still compliments dark skin as well. While it’s a far cry from my spring/summer staples, I’d highly encourage you to look it up! And make it a year round staple :)

As I type I am getting a MUCH needed pedi. My color of choice is Thanks a Windmillion by OPI. It’s a pastel-ish green that is fun and flirty. Definitely not my usual shade but my daughter says it would look great on me and she has great taste! <3 my baby girl. :-)

I’m a mix of some of the previous commenters. Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos on the toes and Sally Hanson Pink Polka Dot Nail Strips on my fingers. For a girl who usually matches her nail colors, this is huge! The fun colors/designs make me wish that my vacation was tomorrow.

I am wearing Mojito Madness on my ring fingers and and Watermelon on the others. I thought it would be cute take on pink and green but NO, I just look like I am ready for Christmas! I love the colors, just not together. Tomorrow…Mojito on the hands and Watermelon on the toes!

On my hands I am wearing shades from Sephora by O.P.I.: Cover Me in Petals (a bright coral) and Access 24/7 (a sheer shocking pink). I painted 2 nails on each hand in the contrasting color because I was inspired by pics from Lady Bey’s Revel shows…how I wish I could have been there, but I digress! I’ve worn both of these on my toes separately but I love them together on my hands! They’re my first foray into neon nails and they look fab!

On my toes I’m wearing wet n wild’s megalast I Red a Good Book (a bright red). I used to be a no polish on the fingernails kind of girl (always had pedis). I love cooking and I wash my hands often so manis rarely had any staying power on my poor little fingers. But when I got my first shellac manicure about 6 months ago, I became a die hard fan of painted digits. Whether I do it myself or hit the salon I can no longer stand to have my nails bare. And to make sure they last, I’ve learned some do’s and dont’s and I’ve stocked up on good top and base coat polishes.

I am currently wearing Orly’s Mint Mojito. I absolutely LOVE this color! I swiped it from the woman sitting next to me as we both got pedis.

    Me: “I like that color”.

Frosty European Lady: “I am trying to make a decision. I think this mint color might be too over the top.”

Me: “I quite enjoy over the top. Mind if I use it?”

Frosty European Lady: “Sure. It’s not really my style. Hmph…”

At this point I was thinking to myself, your loss Svetlana. I happily picked up the color and began my love affair with this shade that is perfect for Summer Days and Summer Nights……someone stop me before I burst into a reprisal of Olivia Newton John’s number from Grease.

I am wearing this ridiculously cheap Cosmetic Arts in an awesome shade of grey (heehee) on my toes. Love the color, but I’ll be darned if I didn’t have to apply 3 million coats. And now it has the nerve to be cracking… Scold me for buying extra cheap crap.

And as far as my hair, when I want to get fancy I’ll do a Curlformers set. It gives me super bouncy, super throwback shirley temple curls, but when I comb through the curls with my fingers I have voluminous, shiny, soft curly waves… Throw some bobby pins in there and I’m everything.

I’m wearing this gorgeous olive green, “Dree” by Zoya. I saw the bottle and thought, “that would be super cute on my toes, in like a really cute pair of wedges.” So, needless to say I have a reason to wear cute shoes! :)

I’m wearing OPI Mod About You and I love it. Its the perfect balance of milky pink and just a hint of lavender. On a whim, I decided to add glitter to a few “accent nails”. Although subtle, the glitter reflects light in a million sparkly colors that make me smile.

Currently wearing Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in “Fairy Teal” on my nails. Fairy Teal is a teal green that leans blue, awesome! I love it because 1: no top or base coats are required, 2: it doesn’t stain and 3: I got it on Clearance…WIN! I’m wearing Essie “A Crewed Interest” from the Navigate Her Collex on my toes. It’s Crayola Crayon Peach. Conservative, yet trendy. Springy and tres girly!

Right now my toes are sporting Aquadelic by China Glaze. I LOVE it. It’s like summer in a bottle. Not to mention the fact that since my friends saw it, they’ve been trying to copy my steeze. I’ll tell them what it is when I switch to a new color, lol!

As a bonafide nail polish addict my nails get a color change every 2 or 3 days. Currently I’m donning “Kiss The Bride” by Orly, which is hilarious because I am nowhere near being a bride, have only been a bridesmaid, and only getting kissed by my baby girl. I think a sista might need a new color…

I’m currently knee-deep in sketches, magazines, and colored pencils & crayons. As I prepare to launch a hyper-local accessories line, every penny & pinch of optimism counts—so I’m reminding myself just how bright my future is with OPI’s marigolden “Need Sunglasses” on my tootsies. Natch, I love it.

My hands, meanwhile, are all business: im currently rocking mannequin hands thanks to Sephora x OPI’s “Leotard Optional”—and it’s the only reminder I need that when it comes to business, I’m a natural!

I am wearing OPI Kiss Me on my Tulips fuschia/hot pink has been my fav color since birth and I know it will be my wedding color when ever he finds me! I love this color because last time I wore it I met a cutie ( he was a dud though lol). I feel like this color brings about positive energy that will set me on the right path toward marital bliss! I mean the nail color name says it all “kiss me on my tulips” future hubby I’m ready for ya!

I am wearing Essie “Curve Ball” in celebration of my big toe toenail growing back (Just in time for summer) LOL. I lost the thing (toe nail that is) in Peru in October and it’s finally growing back. It hasn’t seen polish since October. To celebrate I decorated it with this Essie polish which is somewhat of a Barbie pink. I love it!

On my toes, I have a bright yellow by OPI. I can’t recall the name, though. I’ve never worn yellow on my toes and decided to try something new. My coworkers said I’m daring. I said they’re boring!

I am currently rocking Essie Brazilant from their summer 2011 collection.. I so LOVE this color..Its a slightly shimmery sun-kissed orange that is giving me life right now. I work a 9-5 so when I look down at my perfectly coiffed tips, I feel like I am on the sands of Rio after an all night Samba love affair. It’s so refreshing to find that a color so “not approved” for the brown girl (imaginary ) palette that looks amazing on me (cocoa puff brown) and could also be rocked on the nails of cafe au lait sista as well.

Currently, I’m wearing a thin layer of NYC’s French White Tip as a base coat for a Urban Outfitters neon yellow polish that I plan to paint on when I get home. As any beauty/nail obsessed person knows, a white base makes almost any color pop like crazy, be it on your nails, lips, or eyes.
I’m doing this to get a break from my recent pink polish obsession: Essie’s “Lights” Ah-mah-zing!(Anyone else watch “Happy Endings” around here?!)

I’m wearing Essie Lights on my toes and Essie Action on my fingers! I love both these colours because they are super bright and fun! My hands and arms looks really tan and the bright colour on my toes draw attention to my shoes! I’m a HUGE Essie fan and I would love to add the summer colours (along with the matching flip flops) to my addiction.. ahem, collection! ;)
